Quadtone RIP for P800

(1/2) > >>

Herbc:
I am the proud(?) owner of a new P800 Epson, still in its box.
I print b/w, can't remember when I printed color.  Quadtone RIP is vital to my printing on my Epson 3800, but I am reading where the P800 has better blacks and so on, thus the rationale for buying it.
Question: wait until a new QRIP profile comes out before I install the P800?

Would the better blacks etc of the P800 be an asset in digital negative production?

Czornyj:
To my eye Ultrachrome HD inkset + P800 linearisations give more neutral prints, less prone to metameric issues than former Ultrachrome K3/VM/HDR on SP3800/SP3880/x900/x890. Give it a try, maybe it's good enough for you in standard/ABW modes.

there's already been a few posts on the p800, I'm sure support for it is on the way

Alan Goldhammer:
Also, if you are still printing from windows you can make your own ABW profiles and use those with the same color managed print pathway that you use with LR or PS (LR or PS manage colors) using the ABW print driver.  Mac OS will not allow you to go down this route.

Herbc:
I have a Mac, no windows. 8)
