And here's one of them! Actually it is a spiny orb weaver spider, and it is only about 1/2 inch across. I love the fake eyes on the carapace! Taken hand-held with a Nikon D600 and a Nikkor 105, f/2.8 macro.

Cute in a spiny way..."eyes" on its back/butt. I suppose that the spines and "eyes" are to discourage birds and other predators. These spiders are really fast when actively weaving. I tried to shoot one with a manual focus macro lens (no flash) mid-weaving, and few photos were sharp.
