Metabones finally flocked their adapter (EF to E-Mount)
« on: August 11, 2015, 05:39:58 am »

I just noticed, that Metabones now offers a version of their EF to E-mount adapter that has internal flocking.
Improvements according to Metabones: "The inner hole is painted with flocking material coating. This can further reduce the internal reflection." Product website: http://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB-EF-E-BT4

The original Mark IV didn't solve the problem of internal reflections with tilt-shift-lenses completely.
Fot a description of the problem look at this thread from december 2013: http://forum.luminous-landscape.com/index.php?topic=85249.0
And after the release of the original Mark IV: http://forum.luminous-landscape.com/index.php?topic=97089.0

If you use tilt-shift-lenses adapted to a sony a7-series camera: it is probably better to order the flocked model MARK IV (MB_EF-E-BT4) vs. the unflocked one MARK IV (MB_EF-E-BM4).

Thanks for this info. Factory flocking surely makes this adapter almost a no-brainer over the other cheaper brands.

How is the AF performance compared to the cheaper brands? I've heard at least one report of faster AF on one of the cheaper adapters as compared with Metabones.

I saw a similar report with regard to the A7RII. To be fair to Metabones they should be given some time to update their firmware for the A7RII, they have admitted not testing the IV on the A7RII yet.  Maybe they can improve compatibility and speed?

I didn't even know Metabones adapters had firmware and chips - I thought they were just well-machined, but simple, chunks of metal with pass-through circuitry to turn one mount type into another.

IV is the first with an updatable firmware I believe.

I have the BT4 sitting in my hand. Looking at it carefully, I can see that there is some unevenness in the flocking paint and I can see the ribs. This is mainly at the camera side back corners. Not sure if this will affect anything as the area is small. From the front, the flocking is pretty even and dense.

I have yet to test the adapter as I'm still waiting for my camera (due to arrive today).

it's about flocking time. I'll see myself out.
