The perils of not hiring a pro  ;)

http://www.theonion.com/article/matt-damon-loses-500-guy-who-promised-professional-50955

The best part is the concluding sentence:

"Damon said that for all his future headshot needs, he will go to his cousin who “has a really nice digital camera.”

It's The Onion, you're not supposed to take it at all seriously.

You are right, for a change  ;)

The Onion Fools Top Chinese Newspaper

From the article:

Quote
The satirical publication has fooled its share of government officials. In February, Republican Rep. John Fleming of Louisiana posted a link to an Onion story headlined "Planned Parenthood Opens $8 Billion Abortionplex" to his own Facebook page. It has also duped internationally before — Bangladeshi papers ran with a story on the moon landing being a hoax in 2009 and the official Iranian news agency did the same with an Onion piece from September saying rural Americans preferred Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Barack Obama.

This is also not its first time victimizing China. In 2002, the Beijing Evening News fell for an Onion story claiming congressmen were considering building a new Capitol building in Memphis, Tenn., or Charlotte, N.C., for better parking and more bathrooms.

I've been aware of Onion's satire for quite some time but after going to their homepage and seeing that they don't make it clear that's their purpose, I can understand why other countries don't get the humor and see them as a legitimate news organization.

Unfortunately it also points out the dangerously great divides between cultures on what's funny and what isn't. It's quite frightening seeing we're right in the middle of an information explosion even more easily accessed through technology and all for free.

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it grow a sense of humor.
