Colormunki Photo died.
« on: August 08, 2015, 10:10:27 am »

My 3-4 year old Colormunki Photo's large rotary-dial switch gave up and would only come on when turned to the calibrate position.  No more ability to read anything.  I have a i1 PhotoPro2 as backup so no huge loss, even though it is slower to use.

Turned out x-rite responded with a "Send it in and we'll replace it" when I did their online RMA thing.  So for $6 in USPS postage, in two weeks they sent me a whole new one in a new box - FREE!  Seems they also added the ability to do camera profiles too with the Colorchecker-mini enclosed in the newer models ( http://xritephoto.com/CMcamera ), and the case seems a bit easier to get on than the older one which was tight.

Hats off to x-rite!   :)

That's good to hear! Looks like X-rite might be trying to turn the page. I reported a bug in i1Profile, it's inability to recognize barcoded targets from an iSis (which did work in the past). They told they found a bug and fixed it, hopefully I'll see a fixed version. Figures crossed...

It seems that the internal flexible cable that connects the USB socket to the rotating electronics sometimes goes open circuit. I had to replace this in one of the ColorMunki's I have. (Admittedly that instrument had been given a rather hard time, having been disassembled and re-assembled many times without much regard to whether it needed to work again.)

For anyone with the required mechanical aptitude and less co-operation from X-Rite, the part that needs replacing is a "200mm FCC/FPC Jumper Cable 8 x 0.5 mm pitch with connectors on opposite sides (i.e. type D)". A typical replacement part is the WURTH 687708200002.
