For me, #3. I really like the diagonals in the sand dunes, and the light.

I've been meaning to get out there for some time now.

If I might ask, how was the drive out to it?

They're all nice, of course, but #3 is my favorite too.

Keep this place a secret!  :)

The dunes are even better when you make the hike to the middle of them and realize, you have them all to yourself!

Paulo, Mjollnir, Eric and Larry - thank you.

Mjollnir - the tricky part of the drive are the sandy sections. If you have a high clearance vehicle, it should be easy.

Larry - yes, terrific place.

I also prefer #3, in part for the diagonals, but also for the contrasting textures and tones.

Taking my 90 yo dad there in Jan-Feb; any issues with hiking? I don't think he'll be able to get out far in the Mesquite Flats locale.

David,

You mean you are taking your father to the Ibex Dunes? If yes, it is around a 1.5 miles walk from the parking spot to the dunes on flat terrain (watch out for fringe-toe'd lizards). Towards the end of Feb if the verbena are in bloom that is an added bonus.

Looks like another great location to add to the Southwest trip I'll do one day!

Yes, he's always wanted to go to Death Valley and I have not explored the southernmost regions of the park; Ibex seems like a good destination, along with everything else of course! Thanks for the "warning" about lizards! Maybe we'll get a couple to pose for us ;)

The lizards will pose for you. The rattlers might take some convincing.

The Ibex Dunes are located in the southeast corner of the park. Which means they are quite far from the other iconic sights. The nearest settlement is Shoshone. You will need to budget more than half a day for this locale alone.

Maybe it's like North American subdivisions, where they cut down all the trees and drive out all the wildlife, then name the streets after them. :)
