Yes. Since ongoing support was only for bug fixed and camera support, one would hope the last version will be as bug free as possible and necessary. For future camera support, you'll have to convert to DNG, then this older version will support those newer cameras.

Forbes Magazine: "The underlying problem that Adobe was facing with its old business model was in charging for upgrades at prices that weren’t seen as warranted for the innovation that Adobe was offering. Financial gadgetry and ingenious leasing contracts can cover up this kind of problem for a while, but ultimately, unless Adobe can delight its customers with significant innovation that warrants continued payments of significant subscription fees, Adobe will be ripe for disruption from competitors who will offer the same for much less."

What can they be putting into 9.2 or 10 that precludes continuing to including new camera / lens support into ACR?

Converting to DNG may help for a while, until they stop updating the DNG convertor.

What makes you believe they will stop updating the DNG converter? Don't believe the FUD.

While DNG converter will make it possible to work with Raw files from cameras not supported by ACR 9.1.1, it will not provide new lens profiles for CS6 users.

What? I think you need to study up a bit more on lens profiles. Maybe look for the Adobe Lens Profile Downloader etc.

For Windows users there is a neat way...

It works like you have the default ACR...

As I read the announcement, they're not discontinuing ACR, it's that releases subsequent to 9.1.1 will not be compatible with PS CS6 or earlier.  Just how long do you expect development for legacy software to be offered?  FWIW, Adobe isn't alone in this ... try to buy a fresh copy of Office 2007 or 2010 from Microsoft.
