Slideshow Won't Work and Crashes LR
« on: July 18, 2015, 08:55:58 am »

Hi folks,

The Slideshow module in version LR CC 2015 refuses to work. Instead, it simply crashes, and shuts down LR as well. I've tried ticking and unticking the processing box under preferences but no no avail. In any case, LR tells me it's been disabled, 'due to errors'. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling LR - same old story.

I'm wondering is this 'a known problem' or is there a fix I could try. I raised this issue here before and got my head bitten off (but no advice) for not sending technical date with the question. So, here goes - I don't even know if this is any use!

I can't replicate that.  I am using Lightroom 2015.1 (i.e. CC version) on Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

When you say unchecking the processing box I assume you mean the "use graphics processor" box?

I have a working graphics processor.  It says for that part of the system info:

Graphics Processor Info:
GeForce GTX 550 Ti/PCIe/SSE2

Check OpenGL support: Passed
Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Version: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 350.12
Renderer: GeForce GTX 550 Ti/PCIe/SSE2
LanguageVersion: 3.30 NVIDIA via Cg compiler

Pretty much everything else is the same, except that I have 12G memory and two monitors - which might make a difference.

I'm curious why your graphics processor and video card were not detected.  I mean: it doesn't even say what your graphics card is.  Have you the latest graphics driver installed?

I've found in the past that faulty graphics drivers can produce very, very weird errors, with everything working except one part of one program, for example.  I had a faulty NVIDIA driver which worked fine except for the print preview function of an Epson printer driver.  It looked like an Epson driver problem, but was in fact an NVIDIA driver problem.  In that case I had the latest drivers installed - but only an older Dell version of the Nvidia driver would work on what was an old Dell NVIDIA graphics card.

Not sure if that will help, but the fact that the system info doesn't give graphics card and driver info is suspicious.

Try deleting the LR preferences first:

IF you have any custom templates, that could be the issue too. Remove and try again, might work.

I had a similar problem recently. I was running out of headroom on my system disk. The previous release of LR did not seem to mind but as soon as I upgraded to the latest version of CC, it crashed every time I tried to play a video or slideshow. What is your disk config and how much space do you have?
