Excellent lens, I feel an improvement even over the 80mm D.
Very sharp to the corners, on a 60Mp back.
AF is quick and with a DF+ accurate. Large manual focus ring, and has the clutch to allow Manual focus.

My girlfriend uses this lens and I have fooled around with it. It is very nice and focuses fast (for a MF lens). In my opinion it is a very sharp lens, however wide open at f/2.8 it is kind of soft. f/3.5 and above is very sharp.

Great lens and very sharp but unless you need LS the 80D is just as good IMO.
There was a spate of shutter failures in the 80LS and I've no idea if this was bad luck or a troublesome early bug with this lens but a consideration if buying an older one on the used market without dealer support.

Never say never looking at the addition of the metal lens hoods and sexy blue garter band on the latest lenses but I can't imagine it would be for optical reasons if they did upgrade it.
