Dragonfly
« on: July 14, 2015, 09:43:57 am »

Taken in a salt marsh on the North Carolina coast. I have not been able to ID this critter, any ideas? Taken with an E-M1 and, of all things, the Panasonic 100-300 mm zoom lens at 240 mm.

It certainly does look similar to the one Rainer suggested, but IMH Peter's photo is much nicer than the one in Wikipedia.

That's a beautiful capture, Peter!

I agree  ;D

...but having those images in the Internet with as many as different angles helps a lot for identifying the animals in nature. I was looking especially for that white stripe in front of the wings  :o

That's a very appealing image, you managed to get it in front of a great background.

It looks like a skimmer type to me. It's hard to be sure without seeing more angles, but it's probably a female Yellow-sided Skimmer, Libellula flavida, which is found in North Carolina though it's apparently fairly uncommon.
