Drifting Across the Basin
« on: July 08, 2015, 07:38:16 pm »

Rain and light drift across the western Bighorn Basin.  The farther hills are about 30 km away.
Critique welcome.

Very dramatic and the processing is spot on. A likeable image.

Good one! You asked for critique, so I'll say that I find the first ridge line very strong compared to the rest. I might reduce the clarity or contrast there a bit.

A wonderful shot, Chuck.
I wouldn't change a thing. I interpret the tonalities as suggesting that the rain is just beyond the first ridge line, which explains why it is darker than the other ones. It's more in shadow, too.

Excellent composition, tonalities - and wonderful light and rain / rainclouds.

You can keep the clarity of the rainy part without the "to much" ridge line by using an "elliptical filter" in Lightroom.

Have a Nice Day.

Thanks to all for the comments.  :)
I am bothered a bit by the near ridge as well and have already tied to tone it down some and will have another go at it.  This shot is a nice example of the depth compression of longer focal lengths.  The near ridge is almost 10 km away and the farthest almost 40 (my original estimate was short).  There is a lot more detail available in the near ridge and as Eric pointed out it is pretty well lit compared to the background.
