Did you try with a different card reader or USB cable?

I've had a similar issue with a faulty memory card, it's got a bad sector on it that corrupts a few images.

As francois says try another card reader first, thats the most common issue.

Thanks Guys, It finally did load up ok on that card reader. So I did get the images ok.  You think issue was the card reader not the card? Different readers can do better. In any case, there is always a way/ solution? It did see odd one could not access the rest of the image. / scary for a moment.

1) Is there a great software that I can check the CF card to see if it's ok? What do you recommend
2) Another weird thing,  with both cards I shot on yesterday, the "disc was not ejected properly" sign came up with both cards (even the ok one), even though the discs were not yet eject, they were still in the reader.Another new odd thing never seen.

(ps keep asking every post, but moderator, email notification does not work?)

No idea about software to check for cards condition but I would try Disk Utility first and then move to more specialized software like PhotoRescue and similar offers.

"Disc was not ejected properly" with two cards would lead to to try with a different card reader and simply with a different USB cable. Di you use a USB hub? If you do then try to connect your card reader directly to your iMac.

Yep again I agree with francois, it sounds more like a card reader issue to me.  It's always worth having a spare anyway, and they are cheap enough.
Might I suggest running a virus scan too, some viruses try to block external drives, or interfear with them in different ways.

You guys know that Data/ or Photo Rescue is not 7 years old, are there other software you all recommend?

I've used recuva to rescue deleted/formatted card images, I have a customer who regularly deletes all her holiday photos by mistake (she's about due in again now) it does a good job on them as long as the card hasn't been reused.
Your problem may be a bad sector in the card itself, and I honestly don't know if any of the off the shelf programs will work with that.  I'm no expert but I would assume if the data is corrupted it might take specialist recovery, and thats going to be expensive with no guarantee of results.

The last version of PhotoRescue v3.4.0 has been released about 18 months ago: http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/v3/try.htm
