There are many ways to take this image and I have lots of them.  This was a compromise to emphasize the church and also show some of the mountain background..... As I was standing there the cloud started to form behind the church.... it was a very cool visual experience.

Try not to cut off the top of mountains.  It just doesn't look pleasing.

Photography is so full of compromises - this is one that should not be made. The church is ornate and beautiful enough to draw attention to it, so it could be smaller in the photo to allow the tops of the mountains and sky to be include. This vertical perspective works well and, compared to your first photograph, there is much better lighting on the mountains giving them some shape.
