Help, can't remember the name. Head Cleaning Utility.
« on: June 14, 2015, 11:18:32 pm »

Very simple program that will print a test pattern every so often, I can't for the life of me remember the name. Something along the lines of Harry's Head Cleaning...

Thanks.

Maybe Harvey Head Cleaner? But when will the printer designers get it thru their thick skulls that this utility should be built into every printer?

It would be a great improvement if the HHC program would allow you to pick an image to print rather than just a simple nozzle test check pattern---or perhaps in addition to a nozzle check pattern would be ideal.  This would move more ink through the lines and help keep the capping station moist.  An image with larger blocks of color and a B&W test image pattern come to mind....

Havery Head cleaner I think, only runs on Windows. So as Mac user, I built a very simple Automate script that prints a small image or your choice every day from the Calendar app and cost me nothing. If you're on Mac, I can supply the script.

Re. the script
Does it wake up the mac from hibernation, or does the mac have to be on all the time?

You should be able to sleep the Mac and have either the script or Energy Saver wake it.

I'd like to get a copy of the script. Thanks.
It's on my public Dropbox:
https://www.dropbox.com/home/Public/PrintMeWorkflow.workflow

Now you WILL have to modify it since it's build to print an image I selected. Double click, it will open Automator, and you'll need to show it a path to the test print you desire. Something small, I just used a black to white gradient. You don't want to waste ink and paper of course.

Then you need to go into the Mac Calendar app and access the Automator workflow and set up repeating events to call the Action and make a print. Every day is what I was using. Yes, it makes a new event in your calendar and there is probably another way, perhaps via terminal or such to call the action elsewhere but this is all pretty KISS like approach that doesn't force you to buy a 3rd party app.

I rarely if ever used rolls so I setup that for cheap paper to just print the daily test. You all can decide how to handle paper.

Thanks Andrew. Slight problem, that link takes me to my Dropbox. On another matter, you wouldn't happen to know why the Pixel Genius site is off the air? Since I made the mistake of installing CC2015, I have been trying to get a new version of PK Sharpener without any success.

You must have friends in the business. I have tried Chrome, Firefox and Safari to no avail. I am now getting a server not found error.

It's nor working for me, nor for a friend on the other side of Sydney. It looks like a DNS issue somewhere. All the Dropbox link does is to take me to my own Dropbox, not your. I get a message that the file does not exist.

Andrew,  its' an invalid sharing link.

Open the Dropbox folder in Finder and right click, you should see a 'Share Dropbox Link' so cmd-c that and then paste it.

Seems like it must be pretty trivial .workflow anyway; basically select the desired file and then print it.

Absolutely spot on and in fact, providing a screen capture would probably have resulted in less problems. Water under the bridge.
