An ounce of prevention...
« on: June 08, 2015, 11:45:11 am »

So went on a family (not really a photo) vacation recently. In the process of streaming lining my photo bag to something smaller (that could fit in an overhead bin on the plane), I left my rocket blower on home....

But here was the end result...

Edit: I forgot the particulars:
Focal Length 24mm
Shutter Speed 1s
Aperture f/22
ISO 100
-2 stop ND grad.

What camera do you use!? I have not had issues with dust spots ever since the days of Canon 20D. Nice photo, btw. :)

I was using my venerable A900.  Generally a few little puffs from the blower and all is good.  About 1x a year I'll clean it using a sensor swab... :)

Edit: The spots are definitely worse shooting at small apertures. (This was F/22....)

I wish someone would try to explain to me why - and how - aperture makes the slightest difference to the effects of sensor dust. I've tried, but I just can't work it out.

A picture is worth 1,000 words.  :)

Thank you, sir. Light dawns, or at least begins to dawn: I need to think more about the effect of a lens focussing the light.
