Seashores
« on: June 08, 2015, 11:24:49 am »

I hardly ever see the seashore, so I have almost no idea what I´m doing.  ???
Feedback welcome, thanks for looking.

Very nice, what a spot! You have nicely captured the beauty and drama without succumbing to the temptation to overprocess. Where is this?

This is Iceland… Very nice and dramatic shots. Looks like the weather was perfect for photography!

I really like #1, truly rugged seascape.

#1 looks over sharp to me but a nice composition. #3 is very nice. The best of the 3.

Thanks! Yes, Iceland.
1 is the western tip of Snaefellsnes.
2 is the beach near the glacier pool, Jökulsarlón.
3 is the south coast seen from Dyrhólaey.

I agree 1 is a bit crunchy. HDR to capture the range of black rock and bright surf. I´ll look into toning it down.

I think #1 would be amazing in long exposure. Like many said, it's a great composition. I would love to be there.

Skálasnagi. Tremendous location, especially when the weather is rough.

Polaris, I took a ND filter along on the trip but the wind was generally strong to very strong, so there were a lot of hand-held shots at high speed. I have no idea what my colleagues with tripods were doing. ;)

All very nice Scott. For me #2 is #1!

I think that #1 would be much better as you took it rather than with an ND & a slow shutter. It's the energy of the crashing of the waves that makes this for me. Slow silky water has it's place but that's not here.

Well done I hope that there's more to come.

#2 for me - very atmospheric. The pylons disappearing into the distance make it for me - I wonder what they lead to.

Also like #3.

Thanks for sharing.

Kerry, Graeme: thank you.

Like everyone else with a camera here, I spent hours shooting icebergs from many angles, distances, settings. But in the end, this final snapshot of the big picture seemed to tell the story best of all.

I agree that I don't think that a super long exposure would show the energy as much.
But I would quite like a 1/4 - 1" exposure as well to show some of the movement of the waves without creating that silky water.

Also I agree that it looks a bit oversharpened.

Nice shots though! awesome locations.
