Epson Premium Semi Gloss Paper query
« on: February 11, 2006, 01:06:31 pm »

Hi Folks,
I generally print on Epson Archival Matte paper using an Epson 2400 printer.  I've seen many positive comments about Premium Luster paper and would like to try some tests with this material. However, I can see no references to this paper on any UK online store, only for Epson Premium Semi Gloss paper. Are these the same material?  Do lustre/semi-gloss papers require the black ink cartridge on the 2400 to be changed?
Any clarification on these issues would be appreciated,
Regards,
Stephen Edgar

Epson's Semi-Gloss and Luster papers are slightly different.  The level of glossiness is similar, but the Luster paper has more surface texture to it.  The Luster paper has a texture similar to a common old-fashioned type of darkroom photo paper (where the glossiness has a fine-grained ripple to it), while the Semi-Gloss has a smooth, uniform surface.

Both would use Epson's Photo Black ink.

The Epson Premium luster is different from the semi-gloss, however it is only available in the UK in rolls not cut sheets.
300mmx30.5m Premium Luster Photo Paper C13S041646 £64.00
Above is coppied from the Buy Epson web site umde media for the Pro 7600.
I hope this helps.

Many prefer the Ilford Smooth Pearl over these Espon papers. Very similar in paper texture and gamut, and comes with an Ilford profile. Cost less as well. Any one of these three papers will dramatically improve the gamut, saturation and shadow details over the Epson Archival Matte. That's why those who are not bothered by these papers' reflective surface prefer them over the matte papers.
