PHASE ONE DF or DF+
« on: May 26, 2015, 02:05:41 pm »

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Pase one DF and the DF+ body?

I can buy a used DF body which has a new shutter,
but I don't know if this will work for me in the studio
in an tethered set-up.

The main things that come to mine:

DF+ has a new AF module, which:
1.  No longer hunts and needs the three taps of the shutter button to get focus
2.  You can make AF adjustments for a particular lens.  Settings are only good for lens on camera and have to be re-entered if a different lens is used.

The DF+ works better with the IQ2 backs in that power on and off should power off both back and camera.  (both DF+ and camera need to be at the latest firmware) Also if you are using a Credo 50 or IQ150, LiveView works much better in that when you hit LiveView on the back, the camera opens the mirror/shutter, whereas with the DF, you have to go through several manual steps to accomplish the same thing.  It should do the same thing on a IQ260/IQ280, if you want to use Liveview on a CCD back however I am not sure if they work the same as the IQ150 and IQ250.

The DF+ new ships with a Li-On battery pack that fits in the standard handle mount.  This pack can be purchased separately and will work in a DF.  Either way, the LI-ON pack is a much better solution than the (6) AA battery pack.

Pretty much everything else seems the same as I recall.

Thank you Paul for the reply!

I will use it with the 120mm macro MF
so the DF is good enough for my purpose.

Now I have to find a decent P25 or P45 back.

The DF is a great camera with the P45+, I used one for about 3 years, before moving to a tech camera.

Well,
you first have to find one!

Could i ask one point again:
With the DF+ you could calibrate one value. And this value is the correction for all your lenses...? Is this right?
Thank you.

Calibration is for one lens on one body and I don't have the system but if one point then one focus distance. So you may calibrate at 30 feet focus and it could be "off" at infinity, life is full of compromise.

Aware of two P25+ and two P45+ at one UK dealer, but V & H fittings, that gives the approximate cost ratio though.

The calibration is only for 1 lens one body at a time.  Also once a "calibrated" lens is removed the info is lost.  The process is similar to how you calibrate a Nikon or Canon, i.e. you move the focus point forwards or backwards from 50.  So 49 47 46 etc moves the focus point towards you or negative and 51 and up moves it out away from you.  This is done from custom function 20.  You would need to keep a written log with the settings for each lens you use and re-enter it each time.  No not perfect, but at least you can make the changes.

and a 120mm MF mamiya lens ( which I owned before an loved)

Now I search for  a decent back Like a P25+ or a P45+
or some Leaf back 22 or + MP

What Leaf backs have a low lens multiplying factor ?
