GIMP/Mac question
« on: February 08, 2006, 05:36:15 pm »

Hi All,

I am a novice to GIMP and so far can't figure out how to switch to 16 Bit colour depth from the default 8. I am running OS X 10.4.4.

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Regards,
Ivo

Get Cinepaint (otherwise known as film gimp). It is used in the special effects industry and actually has something other than 8bit support... (it is/was based on the gimp). I just googled it and it seems as if its web site is down? But it does exist and it works on Mac OS X.

Thanks for the heads up on this piece of software - seems to have snuk in under the radar a little. I will give it a once over to see how it performs (it seems more retouching than layers based, however, it does deal with HDR images and 32-bit per channel TIFFs which is something that is not yet so well done in PS).
