To be matched by "beer and exposure now legal tender for bands" (see corner of website). Maybe the Brits have a different date corresponding to our "April Fools' Day"?

Irony, my dear. Irony.

Actually, in UK, some "professional" photographers regard this as a very serious issue with some claiming that more than 80% of their income has disappeared over the past 10 years as a result of amateurs being very happy to supply photographs and photographic services for "flattery and experience".

I don't subscribe to the view that "professionals" have any God-given right to be able to earn a living from their trade - but I can see why they are unhappy with the current trend.

Like fireworks, what used to be a one-day-of-the-year pleasure has been transformed into a non-stop activity, thanks to outfits like "The Onion" and "The Beezly Street Gazette".  As an added bonus, there are thousands of people linking articles like this believing them to be for real -- maybe because sometimes the articles tack closer to the truth than "serious news organizations" (definition: "mass media organizations that take themselves seriously, even if they shouldn't be".)
