Title: LULA Road Trip ? For Kevin
Post by: Kevin Gallagher on April 13, 2015, 07:44:12 am
Hi Kev, I have to ask, what is that ancient looking computer system visible in the background of the tripod picture?

Thanks, Kevin in CT

The shot was made in my Man Cave.  I have a collection of Apple computers.  The one you see is an Apple II and it still works.  I fire it up once in a while just for the fun of it.  Remember a day when I said wow things can't get better than this.  I was a shallow thinker at that time.

This looks like too much fun to be a rant!  :D

Well, I can remember sitting with my brand spankin' new Atari 800 with it's external 5 inch disc drive and thinking the same thing! :)

I really miss my Commodore 64. It had the best version of Frogger ever!

I find it simply impossible to get that certain 'feel' of data crunching on the road ever since I had to give up my Osbourne with dual 5 1/2" floppies.

I still have my KIM-1 and assume it still works, but no longer have a cassette player to store my hand-assembled machine code. Last year I was on a cleaning binge and threw out a working Vector Graphic CP/M machine with an external 5MB Micropolis hard drive. I was saving it until it was worth something again, but got tired of waiting. The only reason the KIM-1 survived my cleaning binge is because it takes up so little room.

Memories.........Hard for me to believe, but I bought my first computer, an Apple II+ in June, 1980.  That was followed by a Mac in 1984, and every 4 or 5 years since, a new Mac.    That means I'm approaching an "anniversary".   35 years with an Apple computer on my desk at home.

I no longer have my first computer, a TRS-80 Model I, but I do have my Amiga 3000. Booted up fine last time I tried…which was c. 2008.  :)  The Amiga is another example of superior tech defeated by superior marketing. And mediocre management.
