Title: Say it isn't so, Mikey

As a longtime fan of Minolta it's sad to see such an innovative and photographer sensitive producer go. I've had 5 camera bodies (still have the 9x1, 9 and 7D) and continue to use 8 Minolta-mount lenses with great satisfaction. Using Minolta products has always been about value and satisfaction. They'll be sorely missed. Here's hoping Sony can pick up the torch and deliver an exciting camera this summer aspromised in their press release.

This is a great pity especially when it seemed like they were really hitting their stride with the new digital SLRs.  It seems they'll still be producing equipment for Sony though, so one hopes many of the same engineers will be working on the upcoming Sony cameras.

I thought Pentax would be the first victim.

The real risk for consumers is that this gets down to a 2 company fight and then only survives. With no future competition, innovation, quality and customer satisfaction will be stifled

Sony will still be putting out DSLRs in that mount.  A bigger company with deeper pockets just got a DSLR with anti shake.

It could be good.

Or they could install a rootkit on every CF card you put in the camera.

No, no ,no. Any Sony DSLRs will only support their next generation of proprietary memory, which will come with the rootkit preinstalled .
