Title: Critique my Bison, please?
Post by: Jerry Segraves on December 29, 2005, 09:05:19 pm
This was shot near the end of August in northern Colorado, very dry and dusty.  I used a 20D with 100-400 IS at ISO 200, f/5 @ 1/250th.  The color photo was fine, but I personally prefer this B&W.  Do you like it also???

I'm not fond of the grainy, heavily-JPEG-artifacted look of the sky (too much compression?), and it's a pity that the most distant buffalo wasn't looking more to camera left to mirror the first two more closely, but other than that you have a decent image. Perhaps trim a bit from the top and right to emphasize the buffalo a bit more.

This image has the feel of something taken in the late 1800's...grainy... the colouring... dusty environment, which is fine for me. Would have been a really striking image if the rear buffalo had his head in the same orientation as the closer two.  Pity you couldn't telepathically communicate this to him in 'buffalo'.
