Title: The Sickener
Post by: Dave Pluimer on October 29, 2014, 07:19:49 am
The sickener. Found this just outside of my camp this weekend. I don't shoot much flora/macro. But, the scene was just too good not to.

Canon 6D, Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro - f/11, 0.5s, ISO 100

Beautiful, almost Disney-esque but just one bite and you're in deep trouble...

This reminds me of a mushroom walk I went on many years ago. It was led by a couple who were then current and past presidents of the Boston Mycological Society. As we encountered various fungi in the woods, I was chagrined to note how many times these experts disagreed on the identification of certain fungi. They did agree on one funny-looking, yellow fungus that they said were "Chantarelles", and they picked some and sautéed them for dinner that night.

Delicious.

And non-toxic.

But I will never try to pick a wild mushroom to eat. There are just too many look-alike pairs, one of which is poisonous.
