Title: LG 34” Class 21:9 UltraWide™ WQHD IPS Monitor Opinion
Post by: abeofRD on June 15, 2014, 01:38:29 pm
I came across this article http://petapixel.com/2014/06/11/sold-dual-screen-editing-setup-favor-34-inch-monitor-awesome/ (http://petapixel.com/2014/06/11/sold-dual-screen-editing-setup-favor-34-inch-monitor-awesome/)

What's anyone's opinion on this monitor, is anyone considering buying it?  Its only 1K US $ its an sRGB Monitor, just wonder why not Adobe RGB. It has some Calibration.

Have one. Won't comment on color calibration since I am not a photographer. Compared to my Nec PA 271W, I would say it has more punch but maybe a bit too present. Can't really describe it better, but with some images on the Nec, the monitor simply disappears as if you were holding a print in front of your eyes. Not so with the LG (but maybe this is because it is new). One important point: I wear reading glasses now (+2.5) and when I am sharp in center, I am not sharp at the edges. It replaces a three monitors setup on my second computer and I solved the same issue in the three monitors setup by giving a 30 degrees angle to the external displays so my viewing distance remains constant. IMHO, a situation where I could really benefit from a curved display.

Thanks Pierre!

I wonder if anyone has tried calibrating these?

There's a review on Anandtech http://www.anandtech.com/show/8057/lg-34um95-monitor-review.

Seems to confirm my impressions: it is a wonderful general purpose monitor, much better than the NEC for many purposes, but it doesn't come close in terms or color gamut and calibration.

Note: I am using it over HDMI 1.4 on an ATI 7850, I was stupid enough to buy it with a video card that is too long for my case ;-)
