Title: Thin Ice
Post by: churly on June 13, 2014, 06:26:52 pm
I haven't made a substantial contribution to the forum for quite a while.  We've been seeing some great landscapes recently so here is something at a smaller scale for some variety.
Critique welcome.

Rich and engaging. I like the "surprise" rainbows, too.

Love 'em all. There are a dozen photos in each. Great conditions for some very creative photography.

I particularly like #2, very abstract and great use of colour, excellent..

As Terry has pointed out, endless possibilities. I can imagine getting "lost" in the subject manner for quite some time.
I love the first two but not a big fan of #3.

Superb set, I like the subject a lot. You could play for days with this icy subject!

Thanks all for the comments. Much appreciated.
There was indeed a lot of potential and it would have been nice to work it more but I was shooting form a very awkward position that was hard to sustain.  One of the impediments of fading youth  :).

There seemed to be so much potential but now I see the difficulties.  - That's a bit obscure Isaac - I'm not really sure what you are getting at.

Yes I see what you mean and understand,  I don't particularly want to make the lines do anything more than they are doing.  Yes I know that isn't consistent with the art of good composition but in this case I prefer to enjoy the natural design as it is rather than fight it to make it something that it isn't.  I suppose that is technically weak photography but it is honest photography in the sense that it reflects my vision.

I think all three "work" very well just as they are.

If, in November, it freezes hard before it snows, I get to do some of my favourite photography of the year.  Ice!

You usually freeze your parts, but it is fun.

all I'd be able to do is take a photograph which is interesting because it records something interesting that happens to ice.

I think it is more than that.  It is beautiful.  Just not strong photography.  They aren't necessarily the same thing. :)
