The board is running again but only to test if the member list has been saved. If you can login and post, please do so on this thread to test things out. We should be running off of a faster database and more stable system. So jump on and post away and see if it burns up again
I've been able to rescue the topics from the other two forums, but not the 'about this site'. So you you'll have to start the discussion about this board again. Sorry about that.

I was able to log in. 6:54PM PDT, Los Angeles.

well tell your friends, lets start it cooking again

Looks like it's working.

Thank you Neil,

Congratulations Niel. Job well done!

Neil, in "Digital Cameras" and "Papers Printers Ink" I notice the topic threads are repeated twice. The others seem to be in order. Also, the posting gap for new topics seems to be from September 11th - I notice a new thread I started several hours before the crash (I belive it was the 12th?) in the Printers section is gone - I'll renew it. It seems perhaps about a day of postings before the crash got lost in the process. Wonderful to have it back again!
-
Umm... I was out of contact since friday the 14th or so.....
what happened? was it the whole 'hacker' thing that everyone was worried about?

At 7:30 PM PDT, I see this thread and double copies of everything else when I select "new posts". All topics appear under "Digital backs" section, regardless of content.
Harrowing times, Neil. We appreciate all you're doing.

Neil, I can log in . Thanks for all your time and effort. Seems to be double posts in "Cameras, Lenses and Shooting gear" as well.
Thanks again
Julie

Here I be.

The Quick Post option at the bottom of the page seems not to function, so I came here. If my other post shows up without any indication on my end, you figure it out.

Yea guys I'm aware of all the post problems. I'm not sure but the backup that I created when the forum started having its serious issues didn't finish all the topics in all the forums and while rescuing I may have double imported some of the stuff. So you'll find holes of missing stuff and some double stuff. The forum software was under such stress that it didn't properly run the backup, I feel terrible about the loss, but I may not be able to restore much of those threads.
If everyone is able to login, I'm grateful. What caused the crash was corruption in the member list. That and the fact that we were using text files for a database and they were too big for thier own good. We're now running off a mySQL database and it is quite capable of growing with us We should have made this transition a year or two ago, and we could have avoided this - but only hindsight is 20/20 right.
I appreciate your patience for the outage and I hope it will remind you what a valuable place this is due to all of your contributions!

Well that answers the issue of sluggish performance in the past.
Well, glad to see things up and running again.
-
Whadya know? It's already faster for me
-
Blimey!
The one aspect of this site that struck me most was how incredibly slow it was. It's now hurtling along like greased lightning. Thanks.

Okay, the performance now is far, far better, and the new look makes it clear that something has changed.
My only regret is that it's going to be a bitch of a time finding and catching up on those topics that I was tracking before. ::
Thanks, Neil!
-
The site is much faster now.
Congratulations on a successful (if unplanned upgrade!

Logged in and faster, thanks.

Much faster and better look and feel. And glad to hear you're on a mySQL database. You should be rockin' now!
-
Glad it's back
-
I like it!
-
receiving you loud and clear in downtown Zürich :blues:

Here!

No, seriously, anyone want to tell me what happened?
-
Count me in. I would like to know what happened as well??
Thanks for getting things up and running.

Another minor problem:
When you subscribe to topics, all posts seem to be sequentially numbered, regardless of which forum or thread they're in.
Example:
Board URL: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/cgi-bin/...m/ikonboard.cgi (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/cgi-bin/forum/ikonboard.cgi)
Forum:About This Site
Topic: Half alive
The topic is located at: http://www.luminous-landscape.com (http://www.luminous-landscape.com) (...) #entry48735

Works for me as well.
-
I'm reading. Seems like a lot is missing.
What happened?
-
Glad you're back. I was having withdrawal symptoms.

Hindsight my patootie! I told you guys almost a year ago but nooooo - don't listen to me! lol
At least now the forum should work as intended.
-
Just testing the post action
-
Good to have the forum back, and let's hope it stays this fast. Thanks for your efforts, Neil.

The difference is night and day, wow! Very fast now.

This was worse than waiting for the next LLVJ! Thank you Neil!!! Even if it weren't faster, I'd be sooooooo glad to have the forum back.

Works fine here in Ohio...
-
Well it is now 9:20 AM EDT in Ohio and this forum is all but dead on arrival again - refreshes are taking about 2 minutes.
Please don't tell me to clear my browser cache.

8:21AM PDT in Los Angeles and no problems using Firefox.

Well - its two hours later and snappy again. Since every other site I hit is always responsive (and has been all morning), it is possible that LLF is still unstable (or undergoing maintenance with techniques that are invasive).

Bob, when its going slow can you PLEASE get a traceroute for me? I need more information before we decide what to do with the server.
