Title: The world famous photographer Albert Watson - photographs the Isle of Skye
Post by: Dave (Isle of Skye) on April 08, 2014, 11:42:32 am
Very interesting 30 minute documentary showing Albert as he photographs around the Isle of Skye along the roads I also travel most days with my camera. Not sure if Albert got any keepers though, as the weather wasn't too good for him, but I am sure he very much enjoyed himself and he did want to photograph the weather - and fireworks, oddly enough ;D

Thank you for posting this. It was greatly enjoyed, both seeing how he worked and the Isle itself.

I am so glad you enjoyed it.

The IoS can certainly look a lot more beautiful than Albert seemed to have the opportunity to see it and show it, but then again it can also look a whole lot more dreich, which it usually saves for my workshops, but hey, that's the beauty of landscape photography.. ;)

Saw it on telly a month or so ago and enjoyed it.

It demonstrated quite clearly where my many visits to Skye have failed. But now I will get the photographs I seek - I just need to get 4 "roadies" and a transit van for my kit!

I enjoyed it too and thanks for posting. This location is on my list and will probably add this to my workshop location list. I plan a trip later in the year. His style resonates very much with me (except the fireworks perhaps).

Btw. I would like to add that beautiful assistant  ;D

is that an attempt at a humorous post or just trolling.

what a revelation - with my lightweight kit I wouldn't even need the van - just 2 roadies would do as long as one of them was checking the monitor for depth of field, exposure, and motion blur.

Watched part of the show during bkfst today. Some beautiful images, although the one of the grass lit up by headlights just seemed odd to me. It seemed strange to see him out in the field in the rain with a Phase One camera tethered to a laptop (using the light hood as a makeshift umbrella), but whatever works. And at one point he was asking his technician if the image was okay... I guess she had the better view!

Thanks for posting the video Dave! I really enjoyed... Good memories from my trip to Sky last year after seeing the video... Also not so good memories, since some of the locations that he shows, I only saw a cloud and a bit of a road... I will go back for sure...

Now, I just need to become famous, have much more money than now, and get myself a set of people that follows me putting my tripod, holding umbrellas and checking the photograph in the laptop just in case I missed something...

Hi David,

Great to hear from you again and that you enjoyed yourself so much and the photography on and around the IoS. Yes it is now nearly a full year since you were here with us, doesn't time fly...?

The link below is not really related to the video link above, other than it is about Landscape Photography of course, but I was watching it the other night and really enjoyed it, so I thought I would share the link with you all here - enjoy!

Yes Dave, it was nearly a year ago (I went at the beginning of June, just in time to enjoy a peak in midges season...). I still have to post around here the photographs I took...

Thanks for the video, I will watch it as soon as I arrive home (by the way, I ended buying a copy of the Scotland's Coast of Joe Cornish).

Yes I would love to see some of those images David and Joe's book is a great book to own, as well as to study for ideas and inspiration  :)

I went to Skye with my wife and younger brother some two weeks after my mother passed away after 5 years of battling cancer. A decade ago now. It was a wonderful trip, incredibly therapeutic. Was shooting Veliva 100 and HP5 on a Mamiya Super 645. I'd love to spend some more time there. Even at the beginning of the summer season it was quiet and relaxing. Paid £75 a week for a nice enough cabin right at the top of the island. This image was shot from right next to our cabin during a rain storm.
