Title: Do People Use LR/Enfuse? How is it?
Post by: 7h3C47 on March 05, 2014, 11:47:28 pm

I don't have classic photoshop, and am looking for something to help facilitate focus stacking in Lightroom.  I enjoy macro photography so this would be really useful as I am unable to focus stack currently.  I have LR 3.6 installed.  Do people use this/like it?

I love LR/Enfuse, but it's designed for exposure stacking, not focus stacking. Don't know if it will work for you in that regard, but if it does, let me know! Helicon Focus and Zerene Stacker are the two focus-stacking programs that I know of.

Thanks Mike!  Do you have personal experience with Helicon Focus and or Zerene Stacker and care to comment on both/either?

I use Helicon Focus, which works well and as both stand alone and LR plug-in.

Six frame stack, each frame focused on one of the trees:

8 frame stack:

Chile de arbol with shallots and sweet pepper? What's that a recipe for?

I love LR/Enfuse, but it's designed for exposure stacking, not focus stacking.

I use LR, and I use Enfuse -- I don't use the LR/Enfuse plugin.

Enfuse works fine for focus stacking, see "8.6 Focus Stacks – Depth-of-Field Increase (http://enblend.sourceforge.net/enfuse.doc/enfuse_4.1.xhtml/Focus-Stacks.xhtml#Focus-Stacks)"

In some cases the default settings might show visible seams which can be countered by setting --contrast-edge-scale and --contrast-min-curvature, for example:

align_image_stack -m  -a a …

enfuse --exposure-weight=0 --saturation-weight=0 --contrast-weight=1 --hard-mask --contrast-edge-scale=0.3 --contrast-min-curvature=0.5% --contrast-window-size=9 …

:otherwise something like this:

align_image_stack -m  -a a …

enfuse --exposure-weight=0 --saturation-weight=0 --contrast-weight=1 --hard-mask  --contrast-window-size=9 …
