Title: smallest image setting and out of focus shots?

hello,

used my rebel t3i for some landscape shots today and forgot the setting was at lowest quality 720x480. focus was on AUTOMATIC with the 6 focus points red lights. got home and previewed the images and the focus was very soft and fuzzy across each image. is this a function of the low resolution? seems like when I shoot at the much higher jpg setting or raw there is not so much of this. well the trip was not a complete waste because I found good locations to shoot for the panoramas I want, will just have to go back again and set the camera properly.

Note: the attached image is a 2 image combined into one panorama. not too sharp of focus.

Probably. If I look at your image at my monitor's native resolution of 125ppi the photo is 5 3/4 inches wide and it looks fine. But at full screen (20 inches wide) it is only 35 ppi which is not enough to render much detail.
Plus the conversion in-camera to a jpeg may not have helped.
