Title: Just for fun - my son's new animation workstation!
Post by: Rand47 on January 08, 2014, 09:39:35 am
Last year I was pretty jazzed when I had a new computer built for LR & PS, with an i7 & 32 gigs RAM, SSDs, etc.

Yesterday my son sent me the specs for his new workstation (he's an animator for one of the major animation studios).

96 Gigs of RAM, and get this, 16 Xeon ES-2687W processors!  16 of them!  Holy cow.   ;D
I looked up the retail price of the processors and that's about $30k worth!
Two monitors, a 30" and a huge Cintiq 24".

I would put at least 256gb of RAM considering the number of cores. ;)

Cheers,
Bernard

Ironically there's a chance LR wouldn't work any faster on such machine...

Could be useful for processing the Raw files from the new Billion-pixel camera that astrophotographers are now using for deep space exploration!
