I need to have a travel-light bullhead like SSR BH-25 LR as a substitute to my BH-55 when traveling. My cameras are D800 and PhaseOne DF+. Do you think BH-25 LR is a good choice? tripod is Gitzo carbon.

I would look at the Markins ballheads. I was able to shave off a few grams and a free up a little space too by using a Markins Q3.

I use the Arca Swiss Monoball Ball PO with a quick lock plate to support a Hasselblad with the 50-110 zoom with no problem. may be a bit more expensive but the load capacity is impressive for a small ball head weighing around 350g.

I'm a big Really Right Stuff fan. But I might look at a BH-30 instead, given you're putting a Phase on it. I think the Pro-II can come in around 60grams heavier than the BH-20, but with double the load capacity.

Have you tried the acratech heads?

Hi,
I used to have an Acratech Ultimate ballhead. I liked it very much. Did buy an RRS BH 40 later, because I wanted to have a lever type QR. I used to mix up the screws on Acratech and several times loosened the lens by mistake. Other than that the Acratech was good, and now they have a lever QR of their own. Right now I use an Arca Swiss D4 geared head, but that is quite heavy.
Best regards
Erik

I use this: http://www.sunwayfoto.com.cn/?fproduct/l2/i313
Clunky Chinglish site, but the products are ace. the feel of the ballhead is really awesome. the movement is well damped and every bit is super high quality.

I have used a RRS BH 40 on a D800 and body grip. Does a good job and is much lighter and smaller than the BH-55 which is my main head. I don't like the the layout of the knobs on the BH-40 as they are a bit cramped. Mine us over 2years old and RRS may have changed it since.
