Title: Epson Printer Driver in LR5
Post by: wlemann on December 23, 2013, 12:00:59 pm
Just getting going with printing in LR5.  I am printing to an Epson 7900.  I seem to be stuck with something in the driver thinking I am in Matte Black.  I want to print using Photo Black Ink on a glossy paper.  BTW, I was able to print on MB but something was goofy as I got too much ink on the paper-it stayed wet.
On the printer:  the ink shows PhotoBlack and I have switched it back to MB and then back again to PB to be sure; the media has been changed to a glossy media type on the printer list which appears after you have loaded the cut sheet in.
In LR5: in the printer panel I chose a glossy media type profile and, for what it's worth, chose glossy in the sharpening area.
Of note, I did not get a driver dialog box where any driver settings could be made.
Anyway, I am not sure what the problem is.  If past experience and recollection serves, it is probably something simple which I either overlooked or of which I am ignorant.
Please help.

Are you setting up the printer driver parameters as part of the LR print. Job setup?

I am not sure what you mean, cannot answer and therein lies the rub.  Could you expand/explain what I need to do.
Thanks, Walter

The 7900 needs you to change from matte to photo black ink on the panel where you switch the power on.
You need to make sure that this setting matches the paper type that you are using manually.
It is that simple!

I was told that PK (photo black ink) was "universal" and can be used for printing on Matte type papers with Matte type Profiles  BUT the reverse is not true, MK (matte black ink) cannot be used on Glossy type papers.  Is this correct?

I don't believe so. The media settings are built based on the inks among other things.

Defined per media type. Some have the choice between mk or pk. Still different profiles required.

Andrew is correct - the ICC profiles that are built for various paper types rely on the appropriate type of black ink when it comes to Epson Pro printers like your 7900.
