Will the rest of the world get ... a firmware upgrade of the focus?

I'm surprised they didn't launch a teaser campaign!

Canon definitely is on a roll!

:D

Version II of Canon's hybrid AF as in the M2 and 100D (not to be confused with the far better dual pixel AF of the 70D) appears to involve a hardware upgrade, with AF sensors covering a larger portion of the sensor. Strangely, when launched in the 100D, Canon did not advertise any AF speed improvement over the first generation hybrid AF, but with the M2, faster AF is the headline claim.

I guess it depends relative to what... According to my quick in store tests last year, the AF of the M was extremely slow, like in slower than cheap compact slow. Besides, it had a hard time to lock focus on the brightly lit displays.

There is no doubt that Canon knows how to design fast AF systems and they had many years to get it exactly the way they wanted it to be... so I assumed this was a design feature.

Cheers,
Bernard

The rest of the world already got the firmware update that greatly improved focus on the EOS-M.

Just got an adaptor for £10 to use my good old FD lenses with my M.

Focuses really fast if I twist the ring on the lens with my hand fast.
