Title: Landscape and Nikon PC-e 45mm?
Post by: cyron123 on November 30, 2013, 02:08:08 pm
Hi,
do somebody have some experience with the tilt shift lens Nikon PC-E 45mm? I have read something that this lens is better in sharpness and resolution than the PC-E 24mm. Is this right?

Thank you.

Even if it is, does it matter? The two lenses are not interchangeable, i.e., you can not choose with one instead of another, given the angle-of-view difference.

Hi Slobodan,

yes you are right. If you need 24mm you have to buy 24mm. The same with 45mm. But my interesst is with the quality of the PC-E 45mm. Do you have some experience with die 45mm?

Sorry, no. My general attitude is that most lenses are good enough for most practical purposes ;)

Hello Cyron,

I have the 24mm,45mm and 85mm Nikon PC-E lens and in my opinion they are all superb.

So photographers don’t have a good opinion on the 24mm PC-E lens but the one I have is great.

Also my old Nikon 35mm shift lens is stellar as well on my Nikon D800E.

Samyang have made a 24mm Tilt Shift lens as well

I just wish Nikon would bring out a 17mm PC-E lens

Cheers

Simon

Is is an interessting answer. A lot of photographers are pixel peeper ( include me), especially hobbiests. But pro' s think different. I had a similar talk with a pro last week about sharpness and lenses. They are not pixel peepers...(the most if them)

Before I was fully immersed in digital, I used a Horseman VHR view camera.  My most used lens was a 105 which was about a 40 mm lens in full frame.  Based on that I would love to have the 45 PCe to use for landscapes.  Simon I'm curious why you want a 17mm PCE lens?  Yeah it would be nice to frame a flower in the foreground, and the mountains in the back, but 17 is extreme.

I use all three of the PCE's- the lenses have a beautiful rendering. Especially the 45.
The 45 is shifted best at d8- and covers 95% of the shifted area very well. the extreme corners are not good.
The weak point is the mechanical shift-system where Canon shines.

Hello Simon, did you ever try the 50mm Mamiya Shift on you 800 via adapter? I'm sold on your recommendation of the 35pc .

I have used two different 45 PCE's. First I rented one and it was excellent so I bought one which was not (excellent). I'm ready to try again, though. There is another poster on this forum who uses only a 45 PCE for stitched landscapes. And he posted examples. Maybe you could do a search because I simply cannot recall his name.
I've also used a 24 PCE. It is excellent for taming converging verticals. The example I used was not good for stitching because the corners were awful.

Hello,

I did have a Mamiya 50mm shift lens when I used a Mamiya 645AFDII/Leaf Aptus 75 system and it was excellent.

I did try it on my Nikon D800E with an adaptor and it also was stellar as well.

Cheers

Hi guys,
I bought a PC-e 45mm lens. The last two days the weather was terrible. I hope it will be better at the weekend and I could show some pictures.

It it a used lens and I hope it is a good one...
