Title: Flax, wheat, lichen
Post by: sdwilsonsct on October 21, 2013, 10:38:17 pm
Thanks for looking. Suggestions welcome.
#2 is taken higher than usual, with the tripod on the roof of the car, snapped via wi-fi.

Nice series, for me #3 is the most interesting one. Dramatic composition and sky. In #1, I find the grass in B&W a bit lifeless and greyish.

Scott - not crazy about the last two...I don't think the lichen shape/object that interesting as subject...and road/wheat...just ordinary. I think the first one is a really great comp., but not necessarily in B/W and crop maybe little to tight for me. What was the color version like? /B

I quite like the last photo, the blue sky and the orange of the rock go well together. The first photo is also very nice but a bit flat in contrast (it might be current display?). The second photo doesn't do much for me, especially compared to the two others.

Thanks, Francois, Brandt and Paulo.

I made #1 B+W to match the colourless feeling of these gray late-autumn days. Too gray, apparently! A colour version is attached.

#1 does it for me, although I think it could be made just a bit more "dramatic" to draw me into it further.
#3 - interesting perspective, but doesn't "go anywhere", but then again, I'm a landscape guy (hence, my preference for #1).
#2 doesn't do anything for me.

Thanks, Terry. I'm all over the map with #1. I see the dramatic potential but feel constrained by the muted colours. Maybe I'll get back out there.

Since the sky was the interesting part to me for #1, the superbale in the foreground just gets in the way and distracts.

If you go all Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse on #1 what will you have left for the tornado?

Actually I was hoping to catch the band of apes throwing bones at the foreground object.

Interesting take, Frank. I'll look into it.

Looking at #1 and #2 , i wonder if raising the camera would help with #1 .

Frank, I raised the camera in #2 so that the angles between the road and fields would open up.

In #1 I was interested in the tall bail stacks, about 3.5 m tall, so I stayed "low". I should probably try them lower, too.

Great photos with the original bw one being the best. The processing is fantastic. I also like number 3 because of the way you captured the sky. Number 2 needs a more speific pointof interest imo, maybe a man walking in the distance?

I like #3. Call me crazy ;D but it immediately reminded me of a dolmen stone!

Thanks, Murat. An earlier version (http://www.luminous-landscape.com/forum/index.php?topic=82732.0) of #2 has that much-needed point of interest.

Matt: I was thinking more velociraptor skull than dolmen.  ;)
