Title: Miles Hecker
Post by: ErikKaffehr on October 09, 2013, 02:42:04 pm
Hi,

It is with sorrow on my heart I read that Miles Hecker has passed away. He was a great guy, sharing much experience. Personally I bought some of his PDF photo guides for Grand Teton and Yellowstone and also had some communication on his P645D experience. Never met him in person, and I will never get the opportunity. Makes me said. A great guy no longer with us. Miles, I will miss you!

Erik

He contributed some great images and trail knowledge to this site... Thanks Miles!

Erik, where did your read of his death?  I have a couple of his photo guides and think very highly of them.  Is there an obituary someplace?  Very sad.  I'm sorry to hear this.

Hi,

There was a notice here on LuLa, all I know. I will miss him. I was his first customer on Grand Teton Photo Guide, bought it before it was released. I also had some communication with him, great gui!

Best regards
Erik

A great contributor for LL.  I am surprised that there aren't more comments.  I will truly miss his contributions.

I always liked his articles and comments.
It's sad to see him go…

I exchanged emails with him a couple of times about the photo guides and found him to be a real gentleman.  I certainly don't mean for this to sound self-serving, but I hope that his photoguides will continue to be available.  They are a great resource for photographers and would be part of a fitting legacy (along with his body of work) for a fine contributor to the photographic community.  From the sounds of the notice it appears that he was in good health generally and this was completely unexpected.

His passing will be a loss for the landscape photographer community.

The PDF photographic location guides that he created are unique - will be interesting to see if they continue to be available!

He not only contributed through participation in the local forums here but also by expanding our awareness of locations through exploration and providing stories on places that are less commonly visited.

How sad it makes me that I never communicated to Miles what a great inspiration his Southwestern/Anasazi petroglyph series was to me, spurring a two week photo expedition through southern Utah and northern Arizona last May incorporating a number of his detailed geotagged sites.

As a tribute to him, a sunset image from Capitol Reef N.P., Utah. May his spirit soar above the land he loved.

Very sorry to hear of Miles' passing.  I have all his eBooks and they are great.  I wonder if it was a biking accident since the articles mentions he was on a bike trip?

What sad news... I also enjoyed his articles very much, they transported me to places where I know for (almost) sure that I will never be able to visit...

Just  read Miles' obit and learned we shared the same birthday though he was ten years younger. Sad news indeed. Was in Yellowstone a month ago and found his photo guide helpful.
