Title: Canon EF to M 4/3 adapter not working on EM-5
Post by: Len R on October 07, 2013, 04:32:18 pm
Just bought an Adaptimax Canon EF to m 4/3 adapter.
It is beautifully made, very solid, nice fit and finish.
But when I put my Canon EF lenses on the Olympus EM-5, there is no image on the rear LCD or in the EVF.
And yes, I took the lens cap off  :)
The usual readouts appear on the LCD, but it is otherwise black.
The shutter button does not respond.
I have looked for a setting in the menu that might apply, but have not found anything.
I tried a 70-200 f4, and a 35 1.4, same result.
Camera is set to manual focus.

Anyone know a fix for this?

Thanks,

Len

Is there a "Shoot without lens option"?

I don't know if it needs to be set to "On" but thought it was worth mentioning.

Thanks.  The camera can shoot without a lens, already checked that, so there must be another reason.

Camera in full manual ? Aperture priority ? What is your max iso set to ?
If you have access to a Canon EF body, set the aperture to wide open and move it over to the m4/3 body and see if there is a difference. Could be one of the contacts is not making, a short, or a dead adapter.

Just a couple ideas.

Thanks degrub, but already tried all of those.
Camera is in full manual and aperture priority.
I set the EF lens to wide open on a Canon body.

Not sure why ISO would matter.

And the adapter has no electronics in it.

This adapter has no electronic control of EF lenses like a Smart adapter so you will not be able to control aperture ...
" allows you to use all Canon EF lenses with external aperture rings on the Panasonic AG-AF100 Micro 4/3 video camcorder,"

Having said that it should not prevent you from getting an image.  I had a similar problem on a Nex with an adapter and came to the conclusion that it was shorting the pins out and confusing the body.  Try putting some thin tape over the contacts in the body, or over the place on the adapter which will sit over the pins to see if that fixes it.  If it does either use that technique or better yet send the adapter back.  There are MUCH cheaper adapters if you paid what B&H are asking.
