I'm hoping to be in Arizona next February. Is it a decent time to visit the Wave (assuming my application is successful)? I imagine I'm less likely to die of heatstroke than in August, but will I have to brush off the snow?

I was there in February a few years ago. There wasn't any snow on the ground but it was damn cold. We camped at White Pocket and the night temps were in the low teens. The temperature during the day was cold but not unbearable. We saw only 3 other people during our entire time at the Wave and we were there all day, leaving after sunset.

A caution, Jeremy: Bret is undoubtedly referring to "low teens" on the Fahrenheit scale. 15 degrees F = -9.4 degrees Celsius (that's a 'minus' there), so bring a muffler and some hot toddy and bring back some fine photos to post.

Minus ten C is not fun. Couple that with the frequent wind and you have a sub-optimal situation.
It was minus 15C and windy in the desert north of Flagstaff last March. Be prepared.

Thanks. I'd assumed you meant Fahrenheit and I've no intention whatever of camping (too sybaritic). What are the skies likely to be like?
I'll put in an application for a ticket and see how it goes, I think.

We were in the area for almost a week and saw boring blue skies almost the entire time. We did find a stray cloud or two on our day at White Pocket but nothing impressive.

Hey, Jeremy,
Don't you have a good cloud image from one of your previous trips? If you get a boring sky, just plug in the good sky.
(But, of course, you don't want to use the same sky on too many photos.) ;)
