Sorry about the double post. I don't think the two images sit well together.
This is completely about form.

Wouldn't b&w make it even more abstract?
-
Or cropping the bottom 20%? Nice water.
-
Slobodan - I did a BW when I processed this shot and at time preferred the color. But you are right, the BW does increase the abstraction. Thanks for the nudge.
Scott - IMO cropping the bottom weakens the diagonals that lead into the rest of the image. Maybe I am not seeing what you are suggesting. What is your train of thought on the crop?

Cropping leaves vertical greens and black diagonals on a silver background. Has more impact in my mind.

I prefer the original color version. The BW is also nice.
Sorry, Scott: your cropping makes it feel too cramped to me. I agree with Chuck that the diagonals need room to breathe.

Aloha,
If its
all about form,
how can it
be
an abstract?
-
:) I don't think form and abstraction exclude each other at all. My point about form concerns the diagonals that result from the different elements and works to bring some interest to the image The abstraction relates to the modest independence of the image from a visual reference that tells you exactly what you are looking at. Clearly the recent discussion suggests that I should be more circumspect about titles. ;D

Aloha,
I think it is a very common error to consider something as an abstract, when in fact it is not, when in fact it has nothing whatsoever to do with an abstract work of art.
Your piece might more readily be considered Motif, which is a style that concerns itself with patterns and repetition.
Certainly ever aspect of it is representational.
I am entirely enamored with the concept of abstract art, and have found doing it successfully is pretty difficult, or not depending on what your expectations are lol.
motif work can be similarly frustrating....

Interesting and well done.
