Title: Using Michael's tripod holes, LLVJ-08
Post by: Dave (Isle of Skye) on August 20, 2013, 12:19:09 pm
I took this shot near to the Yellowstone West Entrance (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=yellowstone+campground&hl=en&ll=44.641974,-110.875969&spn=0.000543,0.001206&sll=44.641965,-110.87554&sspn=0.000539,0.001206&t=h&radius=0.04&hq=yellowstone+campground&z=20&layer=c&cbll=44.641974,-110.875969&panoid=EzRrvZsyn6-O99uG2YTeFQ&cbp=12,119.44,,0,0) based on what I saw on LLVJ-08, I believe this is the Madison River in Madison Valley, West Yellowstone.

Thanks Michael and Chris  ;)

Very nice! The sky is gorgeous, brilliant.

You're right about the location…

My pleasure Chris and fond memories now for me too, as this is a long, long way from home for me. Michael actually ended up shooting in the other direction if I remember correctly, but you lingered on the scene as seen above - good choice  ;D

If anyone wishes to compare the Google map image in the link above to my image, you will see that it is exactly the same location (although I was standing on top of the largest of those boulders to take my shot), because even the branches in the river mid left are the same in both shots, which just goes to show that what may look very plain in the bright light of the day, can look so much better when you are there before dawn and waiting for the sun come up.

Did Michael and Chris provide the elegant mists and the gorgeous light in the sky as well as the tripod holes?
It's a beautiful shot.

No, just the tripod holes and the inspiration, mother nature did the rest, along with a very early start and standing around in the freezing cold for an hour or so worrying about my camera settings as I waited for dawn to break.
