Title: NSA broke privacy rules thousands of times a year
Post by: dreed on August 16, 2013, 08:41:45 am
"An internal NSA audit identifies 2,775 "incidents," or violations of the rules or court orders for surveillance of Americans or foreign targets in the United States."

A simple few questions: If you or I broke such rules or contravened court orders, what sort of sanctions might we face? What sanctions will the NSA face over this? Should governmental organisations be above the law? If not, shouldn't they then incur the same sanctions as any other member of the public?

Pretty hard to "sanction" the President and the executive branch, which works for the Pres and includes the NSA. Let's hope that instead of indulging in a period of over-the-top rhetoric and wild goose chases the government buckles down to the task and "sanctions" the individuals who broke the law.

When the President breaks the law, he gets impeached. But yes, you're right, it isn't the NSA that would be the target but the individuals responsible that work there.

Would that that were true, Dreed. Unfortunately it never happens that the president gets impeached and tossed out. Two have been impeached, but in neither case did the Senate convict. There are plenty of other cases, including what appears to be a current one, that simply are ignored.
