Title: AfterShot Pro! from Corel for about $49!!
Post by: Phil Indeblanc on August 02, 2013, 05:08:55 am
I'm giving this a Shot ...And really like the way you access your files. SIMPLE, This is how LR and C1 should do it. ASP allows you to position the main toolset, and it looks rather nice overall.
I'm finding "Range" in the color adj to be rather a nice feature. Except it isnt for each function. There should be a Range for each Lum, Sat ,Hue.

Anyone else try ASPro out, and checked out how it processes?

Already tried it on my 2010 Mac Mini/OS 10.6.8 about a month ago with my 2006 Pentax K100D 6MP PEF's.

Horrendous 1:1 previews in rendering noise, detail and color. I ditched it. Your experience may be better or worse depending on your camera model.

Can't top LR4's previews for sure which I got off Amazon for $100 as a new convert from CS3.

interesting take. Did you try any other feature besides that?
As I think lots of DEv apps leave that as the detail to nail down in their developing. Even LR did improve that in rev 3 or 4.
People still claim SikyPix to top it. I can understand your need though.
Did you get a chance to look at much else?

It renders previews for the 1ds and 5D pretty good. I didn't look into it particularly.

I'm always looking for a backup to fall on with things up in the air...literally...Adobe cloud. I'm sure it will be safe for LR, but whos to assure you?

Isn't that the program formerly known as Bibble?

Yes, I think I heard something like that.
I knew Bibble when it was a spherical browser based on color association. At least that is what I was shown at a trade show a few years back :-)

No, I didn't look at much else once I saw the 1:1 preview rendering. Didn't see the point but I did play around with the tools a bit which felt like working with a tinker toy compared to working in ACR4.6/LR4 in how the preview responds to the edits which have a noticeable delay, but that's my experience on my system with my camera's Raw.

I also have a version of SilkyPix rebadged as Pentax Digital Camera Utility 4 that came with my camera which I don't use either for pretty much the same reasons except PDCU4 delivers better previews (much like ACR4.6) but with a clunky interface that tries to mimic LR's Library/Develop module setup. The preview response edits reflect a slightly oddball sense of color rendering that seem to be sourced from Pentax's secret sauce rendering of my K100D's incamera jpegs. I'm just too used to Adobe's color engine driven preview edits.
