Title: Compact Nikon zoom
Post by: satybhat on July 16, 2013, 10:36:00 pm
Hi,
Just wondering, what would you guys reckon to be the best compact Nikon standard zoom ?
I have the 24-70, but its too huge to carry with a family trotting along.
I've had my eyes on the 24-85, but it comes in 2 versions, not sure of them.
Would be used on the D800E.  - landscape and portraiture. / travel kit
thanks for your opinions.

Hello,

I have the Nikon 24-85mm F3.5-4.5 VRII G lens which I use on my Nikon D800’s and I find this lens does a great job. It is not a true pro grade lens but for happy snaps and recee shots it works fine.

Cheers

Simon

I use the Nikkor 28-300mm as a "travel lens" for my D800 and D800E. It is superb in terms of image quality for such a wide zoom range but it is really not much lighter or less bulky than the 24-70mm. It just saves me taking several lenses when flying abroad.

Here's a review/comparison of the Nikon 24-70, the new Tamron 24-70, and the new Nikon 24-85 VR:
