Title: Using Lightroom to print (3) 4x6 on one sheet of paper
Post by: JeffW on June 23, 2013, 04:27:55 pm
I am fairly new to Lightroom. I have Lightroom 4. I am able to set up an 8.5x11 sheet of per with (3) 4x6 inch prints on ot using Custom Package. My question is: I have 50+ images to print. Do I have to drag these onto the layout page one at a time? Is there a way to automate this process?

Hi Jeff,

To my knowledge (and I'm quiet new to LR, too) it is not possible.
Either you choose Single Image / Contact Sheet and print all selected images automatically, but you are restriced to 1, 2, or 4 pictures per page and can't do 3, or you create a Custom Package where you can greate a 3 image layout, but you have to insert the images manually.
If it is just for cutout you could do the following workaround:
Choose Single Image, 1 row, 2 columns, and set the bottom margin so that you have both images in the top area of the page.
Select 2/3rds of your images and print them, the bottom area of each page is blank.
Now create a new layout with just one image, now horizontal in the blank area of the page (either in the bottom area or in the top if you turn your sheets around and print the rest 1/3rd of the images in the blank space.
Now it's your turn to decide what you prefer, handling each sheet twice or drag your pictures manually to a custom package (honestly, I would make a custom package).

Hope it helps

No, you don't have to drag them on one at a time. The Preview window just shows you the first page.

In the Print Module, first make sure that the toolbar (between the preview window and the filmstrip) is showing -- if not, press T. In the toolbar is an option called "Use". Set it to "selected photos". Then just select the photos in the filmstrip that you want to print. For your template, the first 3 will be displayed in the preview. When you start to add more images, LR will create more pages. The toolbar will show you how many pages you have (on the right) and give you arrows (on the left) to navigate the pages.

Dan, I'm not sure if i understood you correctly.
If I choose Single Image/Contact Sheet I get all the images that are selected shown (when Use: Selected Photos is set), page by page, depending how many pictures per page and pictures selected.
But I can't make 3 panels then.
And if I choose Custom Package I can make 3 cells but it does not fill them automatically with the pictures.
Would be nice of you if you could explain either how to make the 3 panels in Single Image or how to set to automatic fill in Custom Package.

So I tried what Dan had mentioned and did not get anywhere. I was trying this in Custom. I wonder if because some images are vertical and some horizontal that Lightroom would not be able to orient them based on just a 4x6 placeholder.

Seems like there should be a way to do this since 8.5 x11 is the most common paper size.

So then, what would be the easiest way to do this outside of Lightroom? I am using a Mac , but also have Windows available.

Qimage for windows works great, has a polarizing interface with some people, but I find it easy to batch with it. I believe there is a 30 day trial.

You might also want to try Picture Window Pro.
You can create a Album Page to your wishes and fill it automatically in a Workflow.
At www.dl-c.com you find a 30 day trial
