Title: Auto Save in PS6
Post by: Kirk Gittings on June 10, 2013, 11:53:01 pm
When is Adobe going to fix Auto Save so that it actually works? I have all the boxes checked and set for 5 minute saves and it does nothing. I can work for hours (I tested it by leaving a file open for hours) and it never auto saves anything.

Mine seems to do it the other way around, or at least it regularly keeps doing something intensive in the background, as then screen starts to stutter and the HDD starts thrashing away - never got any of this in CS5. It seems to me as though it is having to page data onto the HDD for no apparent reason, as I thought I had all the auto save stuff turned off. I have 32gb of Ram on a 2Tb HDD on an i7 windows machine BTW

Does anyone have a definitive method of controlling what CS6 does in the background?

Dave

Hello Kirk,
I thought it wasn't working until I checked my scratch disk and there it was.

It's supposed to copy a backup for recovery, not the original. Where it saves this I'm not sure.

PS creates a folder 'PSAutoRecover' on the scratch disk and saves a copy of the file, after a crash PS will restore the file from the back up. When the original file is saved normally the backup copy is cleared from the recovery folder.
It seems to work pretty well on a MacPro.
