A few of the stumps that give the place it's name.

I like the peaceful setting and warm light of the pano.  Nice picture to hang up and dream about in the winter.  Alan.

Very Nice photos. I Love Stump Pass. I used to live in North Port and I spent a lot of my time there, Fishing and Photographing and just enjoying nature. The place changed weekly too so there are infinite photo opportunities. Im not sure what it looks like now but back then there were full trees extending from the shore into the ocean. Here is a Pano i did back in 2008. amazing how things change eh? Not trying to hijack the post by the way just wanted to show what it looked like back then and ask if its changed much.

Things seem pretty beat down, now days. I really haven’t given the place too much of a look, just a quick evening walk on the gulf side a few weeks or so ago. Most of the Australian Pines that I remember as a kid are gone with the winds of Hurricane Charley back in 2004. Your shot looks to be a post Charley shot, quite nice by the way. Most of the stranding stuff in your shot is likely gone as well, I didn’t see any like them on the Gulf side; the standing stumps are mostly all down and washed away on the Gulf side. The whole area seems about half as wide, maybe less, than what I remember it as in the late 60’s and early 70’s.

In the middle of August we will be spending a week at Sea Oats just up the way, so I imagine I will try and spend a good bit more time down there seeing what else is to be seen, maybe try and drag my Granddaughter down there, my kids used to love the place as well. It’s kind of sad really, as a kid my buddies and I used to spend weekends camped under the big Australian Pines, the needle duff was so thick it was like a mattress, nice and soft. Now days there is no daytime cover, just hot hard packed sand and no whispering pines to lull a person to sleep at night.
