Title: The photographer's mirror
Post by: bill t. on June 03, 2013, 02:05:05 pm
Here are some photographer mirror portraits and a brief history of copping attitudes behind the lens.  Tumblr sites are slippery targets so you may need to scroll down a bit as the best sinks inexorably into the past.

They only have one by Imogen Cunningham. My favorite of hers is from 1955:

From today.

I find mirrors are irresistibly drawn to me: they pop out and grab me all the time. Such a bore.

Nice little site; thanks for the link to it.

A few very venerable names there; Ugo Mulas was a very good fashion snapper who had wonderful speads in what I thinks is a now defunct fashion bible: Linea Italiana, that opened my eyes very wide in the 60s. I used to think Vogue was where it was at. Wrong; it was in Linea.

Wish I hadn't blown my chances of self-portraits with les girls; too blasé, thought it could never end, I could never age. Wrong again - almost a habit by now.

hahaha
I couldn't help but think back to the day I scared myself.
So not looking in the mirror exactly, but looking for a way out of a department store I was somehow in.
You know those big three way store mirrors put there to see all sides of a suit?
Yeah just one of those and me, the effect was astounding.
I looked exactly like clint eastwood in joe kidd -but less handsome.
