So, while I have an 11880 under service contract... Epson tech support has told me if Decision One is sent out on site, and deems the 'repairs' are
within printer specs/tolerances... I will be billed for Time & Material!!
The service contract does state this, but Epson has never enforced this or been very aggressive on this issue.
My 11880 skew errors/issues 'are due to Epson media telescoping off the roll' normal and within spec
Banding printing 1440 on HotPress Natural in heavy ink coverage areas, is normal within spec, and I have to print in 2880 mode on that paper
The fact that the 11880 white paper line is crooked and causes the skew, is normal and just a guide. Don't have to use the line.
The fact that the media's centering is off to one side by .25" must be my settings
BUT
If I don't believe them on any of this, D.O. decides there's no 'problem'
I pay out of pocket :(
I guess the Great Recession really is making doing business tougher.
1 last rant.
Printing 90" long x 58" wide , 16bit images @ 2880, finest detail on... causes the printer to slow down as one prints. The print head pauses at the home position for about 10 sec or so, makes 1 or 2 passes, them repeats the pause/delay .... continue until print finished... this adds tremendous print time....
Epson's response. Your 32gigs of Ram, 8 Core Mac Pro, 4,1 system is at fault. NOT OUR driver, struggling to send data, dithering information, etc etc....
I guess this is a perfect case of why one should use a 3rd party RIP, like ImagePrint, ErgoSoft, etc...

While I can’t speak to most of what you have posted, I can speak to one thing, printing pauses.
I on occasion print some fairly large files on my old 9880, 200 or 300 Megs and larger at resolutions likely greater than I really need to, while using the plain old Epson drivers. I use an old Dell 1505 dual core laptop with 2 Gigs ram to drive the printer, which is at a different site from my main work unit. Well these large files would do the pause and think about it a while thing, print a few passes and do some more thinking. Pain in the neck for sure!
Well you know what, for reasons not related to this issue I put a new larger and way the heck faster “SSD” drive in the laptop and guess what, no more printer pauses, it flies right through the big max res files with nary a pause. So I have to say Epson has “some” grounds, not all, but some, to say it’s your hardware that is the issue. If your hot Apple computer uses a standard mechanical hard drive I am pretty sure that is your issue. I am sure the Epson driver code likely could be optimized a bit better, but this issue isn’t all on Epson’s side of the fence. I am not one to defend Epson on most things, but I think to be fair, they do have a leg to stand on here. If your hot Apple box doesn’t have one whacking fast disk drive (a pair?) or a raid 0 array and the interface to match in it, that is likely why you see the printer pauses.
There is my two cents, for what it is worth to you.

If you're using Windows and Qimage, even a 950 GB file will be steadily spooled out by Qimage and there will be no delays at the machine.

My suggestion is that you obtain a copy of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act witch governs warranty and service contracts by oe vendors and check your individual state statutes for supporting statutes and think about hiring an atty familiar with those issues.

Some interesting feedback. I do have a OWC Excelsior SSD PCI-e SSD card, so I'll try booting off that and printing off that as well...
I do own Qimage (which I use on my 9900 to go beyond any length limitations)
I can try that as well at some point... go to know it's solid
I'll keep an eye on these potential printer pause fixes!
