Title: i1 display pro question

Can you just measure and get the numbers for ambient light with this unit?    I see where you can use the automatic compensation feature but not how to just get a straight measurement.

Not with the Colorimeter, yes with the Spectrophotometer although the software to do so is a bit half baked. The auto compensation 'feature' is bogus, pass!

Thanks for the reply.

So my upgrade from my i1 display 2 to i1 display pro loses this feature for some reason... good grief!  I assume they could add it to the software in an update if they chose since it already records the data somewhere.  Strangely the software actually forces me measure the ambient light to continue even though the auto box is not checked.

I find the newer software to be generally less clear and efficient. 

I agree and will pass on the auto feature.

Yikes, kind of an important feature. Is there a way to add this capacity separately, without having to spend a great deal of money?

I don't recall the original instrument being able to measure ambient light other than for the purpose of either giving you the incorrect starting point for calibration targets (you'd put the instrument under the ambient light near the display) OR for the ambient light compensation which is also worthless. When I mention measuring using the i1Pro Spectrophotometer, it's providing spectral data and other functionality in the old i1Share software. Again, I don't recall the Colorimeter having those capabilities.

Just what are you trying to measure in terms of ambient light and why?
